Apple Inc. Expecting to delay the next large iPad software update for about one month, taking unusual steps not to release it at the same time as the new iPhone software, according to people with knowledge about the problem.
Over the past few years, this technology giant has released an iPad update and large iPhone software, known as iPados and iOS, at the same time in September. This time, Apple plans to issue iOS 16 during the usual period but does not launch the iPados 16 until October, said people, who ask not to be identified because their considerations are personal.
The delay in the software is due, at least in part, because of an ambitious effort to overhaul the ability of the iPad’s multitasking. This update includes a feature called Stage Manager that allows users to operate several tasks simultaneously, change window size and bounce between various application groups.
During beta testing, this system has drawn criticism from several developers and users because of its bugs, confusing interfaces and lack of compatibility with most iPad. Surprisingly the release schedule will also allow Apple to place more engineering resources to complete iOS 16, software updates that will be included with the iPhone 14 in September.
Changes will also bring the release of iPados 16 closer to the launch of the new iPad hardware. The company plans an updated iPad Pro with M2 chip, along with a faster iPad entry-level with a USB-C port, Bloomberg has reported.
An Apple spokesman refused to comment on the plan, which could change when a company based in Cupertino, California, was getting closer to the fall of autumn products.
Even before additional delays, Apple’s software release was a little late from this year’s schedule, with a public beta phase from updates starting to be slower than usual. But the company has dealt with this kind of obstacle before. Apple faces a significant challenge with iOS 13 in 2019, which affects the debut of the iPhone 11, making Apple change the way to handle software updates.
Mac gets the same stage manager feature as part of MacOS Ventura, but the system version is less controversial. MAC updates are scheduled to be released in October, the same month Apple usually launches the increase in the main Mac software. And Watchos 9, the latest Apple Watch software, is still scheduled for September with an iPhone update.
